About

Who I am as a person

My name is pronounced “I yell it.” Nowadays I don’t hesitate to explain my pronunciation. However, when I was growing up in the Midwest as a daughter of immigrants, I longed for an “All-American” name like Sally and French braids in my dark, curly hair. I just wanted to melt into the background at school.

Instead I stood out because of my name, how different I looked from the blond, blue-eyed kids in my class, and my family’s culture and religion.

My views, thankfully, have changed so much since then!

Now, I love my name. In my current hometown of Fort Collins*, there is no one else with my first name. Heck, there’s only one other Ayelet in the whole state of Colorado!

Now, my friends send me excited texts when they see someone else with my first name.

Now I understand that with my feet firmly planted in two cultures, I grew up navigating, adapting, and figuring things out (often on my own).

I’ve had to process what being an “outsider” really means with vulnerability and self-awareness and nurture a community of belonging that holds space for each other. I now can appreciate the amazing perspective I was given in this life.

My life’s work is to tell the stories of others who have felt “unconventional,” “nontraditional,” “weird,” or any other adjective that doesn’t feel like a compliment.

I prefer to use these adjectives instead to describe my favorite people: fresh, original, never-been-seen-before, innovative, creative, imaginative, radical, visionary, ingenious, artistic, inspired, expressive, vulnerable, courageous, clever, brilliant, and quirky. My specialty is working with creatives and creative entrepreneurs.

My professional backstory

I’ve worked in digital marketing for over 14 years, including content creation and marketing strategy. My brain enjoys the puzzles and strategic side of things (fun fact: Strategic is one of my top Clifton Strengths). I also love a good story and believe deeply in the power of outstanding storytelling.

I really dove into videos and video editing in 2020. I enjoyed making educational and informational videos at my full-time job and one of the upsides of the pandemic is that video became an integral part of our marketing strategy. I knew my next career phase was to help others use the power of video as a solopreneur. While some might label my work as a videographer, producer, or part of a video production team, I’m a video editor and video content strategist, through and through!

What I love about my work life now is getting to combine my strategic and ideation sides with my love of storytelling.

Fun facts about me

In my free time, I’m an avid sewist and dabble in other hobbies like crochet, embroidery, fabric dyeing with botanicals, and pottery. I love making with my hands, both physically with crafts or digitally with videos!

When I’m not creating (or sometimes even when I am), I enjoy hanging out with my husband, our daughter, our dog Pepper, and our cat Papaya.
