Frequently Asked Questions
You’ve got questions about videos and I’ve got answers.
How to use video for your brand or business depends on a lot of things, like your personality, communications style, budget, resources, and so much more!
Please check out my free business video smash course for more great info about the different kinds of video content that you can create.
And my door is open (figuratively since we keep our real house doors locked, thank you very much) so feel free to reach out for a free 30-minute consultation call or video chat to talk more.
Q: Why is video so important?
If you’re on my website, you probably know you need to add video to your content… and for good reason!
If you don’t know where to start, I’d suggest my free business video smash course for a primer and then reach out to me for a 30-minute call where we can talk about your business, your ideas, and your goals.
Since videos are best done on an ongoing basis, I also can help you develop a video content strategy and accompanying calendar. That way your customers hear from you via video regularly.
Q: Do you shoot video?
While I don't tape video footage myself, I can advise you on shooting footage or recording audio and provide creative direction.
After all, you want to get outstanding video footage that will be made even better with video editing.
I am compiling a recommended vendors list of those who work in related fields like videographers, graphic designers, animators, voice-over artists, and more. If you’re looking to hire a videographer or have a complicated video in mind, stay tuned for that info soon!
Q: You’ve got all these amazing videos on your site - you really don’t shoot video?!
Oh, thank you, thank you - you’re far too kind. 😊
In all honesty, I shot these videos at home by myself with a smart phone, lavalier microphone, tripod, ring light, and scripts on a tablet.
Would my videos have turned out better with a professional videographer? 100,000% yes. Sometimes you have to get scrappy and resourceful to get your message out there. I didn’t let BEST get in the way of DONE in this instance.
So why am I admitting all this? Because 1) I value honesty and transparency with clients and potential clients, and 2) you should feel empowered to shoot videos with whatever you have at hand.
I bought my mic, tripod, and ring light for less than $50 total so it is doable to start shooting video footage yourself if you can’t hire a videographer yet.
If a video is well thought out, scripted, and planned to meet your customer’s needs, that’s more important than having the perfect lighting setup or a fancy mic.
You know why?
Because it means you’ll be on message and providing value to your viewers. Being helpful wins out over being fancy, just for fancy’s sake!
Q: So you don’t shoot video. Then… what do you actually do? No offense. ;)
No offense taken! While I’m not a videographer, I do create literal magic. ✨🧙♀️✨
I can make a room look brighter and make your face glow on camera. I can put you on edge during a thriller movie or make you feel the love in a romantic film. I can add information that would otherwise be left out (like graphics, names, titles, captions, etc.) to create a complete picture for your viewers.
I can find and add the perfect music and sound effects to heighten what’s going on in the video itself. I can blur out backgrounds when you forget to clean up the clutter behind you before taping. There are so many things video editing can do!
Video editing is a bit of an unsung hero, but it can energize and enlighten your content or bring it down low. Who wouldn’t want those kind of ✨magical powers✨?!
Q: What kinds of video services do you offer?
Let me count the ways I’d like to help you add video into your content:
Edit with stock videos, photos, or music
Create a video storytelling strategy and calendar to fit your business
Help you structure, organize, and edit your online video course
Provide creative direction for videos
Edit a video call or webinar (e.g. Zoom, Teams, etc.)
Work on bilingual videos (English & Spanish)
Work with other vendors who shoot video, provide voice-overs, illustrate, or work on many other video-related tasks to create a great video for your business or brand
Q: What kinds of videos can you make?
There are so many great multimedia content choices! These can include:
ads or commercials
explainer videos
testimonials
editorial videos
product/service demos
other information sharing videos
brand videos
narrative videos
slideshow videos
videos with voiceovers
website background videos or video headers (looping videos on websites)
Video courses can be a series or explainer, editorial, or info-sharing videos. I highly recommend checking out my free business video smash course to learn more. It’ll help spark some ideas if you’re not sure where to start with videos. Once you’re done with that, drop me a line!
If you’re looking for a video editor for social media videos, I can suggest a couple of video editing platforms for you to look into. I produce social media videos for clients as part of their overall video content strategy, but not exclusively.
Platforms to look into:
Adobe Premiere Rush (may come as part of Adobe Express)
CapCut
Q: What is your process?
At the beginning, I will work with you to clarify the purpose of your videos and use that as my guidepost throughout the video editing process.
Together we’ll talk through your messaging and target audience(s) so your video inspires the action you want. I maintain your branding, voice, and messaging throughout the video, too.
I will send you a draft for your first review and incorporate your changes before you see second or third review. If further reviews are needed, we can add those on to the project at that time.
After the video is approved, I’ll send you the final file so it’ll be ready to go up on your YouTube channel, website, social media platform, or anywhere else you want to use it!
Q: Who are you? Why should I trust you with my videos?
I get it - it’s always tricky to know if you should hire the person to do the thing. I shared some fun facts and a special video on my About page. Watch ‘til the end - you won’t be disappointed! I threw a few surprises in there.
Professionally speaking, I spent years working as a project manager so I value timeliness, reliability, and communication about projects. You will always know what’s happening with your video projects and I openly communicate with you as the client.
Also, my background in marketing and content creation allows me to home on the right messaging to fit your needs. If you’re still not sure or just want to see if I’m the real deal, I’m happy to do a free 30-minute consultation call or video chat with you so you feel comfortable with me.
I can’t promise puns though - no one can perform on demand like that!💃💃💃
Looking forward to hearing from you!
