Welcome - you’re in
for a treat!
In less than 15 minutes, you’ll learn all about the different types of videos
that can be used to tell your story.
Make your videos delicious like cake.
I decided to name this the Business Video Smash Course because of a cake smashing video. As I watched this video of a kid smashing cake into their mouth, I thought “yeah, I could do that!” I meant that I could add cake metaphors and references throughout a video series (although I am not above devouring cake).
So how do videos relate to cake?
1) There are so many different kinds to choose from! It’s fun to mix and match the kinds you make or buy, depending on your mood, preferences, and style.
2) Just like cake, it’s important to know the purpose of your video before you make it. After all, you wouldn’t bring a chocolate espresso cake to a one-year-old’s birthday party! Listen, you do not want caffeinated toddlers on your hands!
Similarly, you wouldn’t want to make a funny video to deal with a serious topic and vice versa. Thinking about your audience and messaging ahead of time will save you from these types of hiccups.
3) Videos and cakes are fun. Both are great ways to show off your personality and style. For example, if you’ve watched any of the videos starring me here, you probably know a lot more about me now than you did if you only read the text. You have a better sense of my personality, my gestures, my humor, and what I would be like to work with.
Same thing goes for your customers and clients when they see a video about your business or brand.
This is a short course made up with five videos approximately one to three minutes each to give you an overview of the five different, common types of videos. After going through this quick course, you’ll be able to:
Confidently identify different types of videos out in the wild
Start figuring out the best types of videos for you and your business
So grab your apron and let’s get started!
P.S. Just kidding - aprons are completely optional in both cake making and watching these videos.

Info Sharing Videos
These videos are used as a way to share information either through presentations, visual illustrations, infographics, whiteboard videos, product or service demonstrations, or website demos.
Ads and Commercials
Ads and commercials strive to get people to buy a product or service. A truly great commercial is either 1) hilarious or 2) universally related to a pain point that your customer experiences. Both scenarios may lead to customers simply throwing their money at you (not a scientifically proven fact!).
Explainer Videos
Sometimes a process is best learned when shown. Video works great to explain how to do something new step-by-step, break up complex ideas, or illustrate the benefits of a specific service. They can be referred to as explainer videos, tutorials, how-to’s, or even something else. Whatever you call them, something is learned.
Testimonial Videos
These are great to show the love your clients or customers have for your brand, products, or services. People believe other people above what brands or businesses say about their own products or services.
Editorial Videos
Specifically non-commercial, these videos take a deep dive into a subject and provide viewers with loads of value. These types of videos are great for raising awareness, educating clients, and enhancing credibility for your brand.
