Blog-to-Video: How to Increase Your “Reads” on a Blog Post or Landing Page
Watch this post instead with this blog-to-video
(created as part of my basic AI blog-to-video package):
Reading can be unfair.
(Okay, this is not something I ever would have expected to read on my blog, but let’s roll with it.)
Why exactly is reading unfair?
To read, you need the:
Time
Ability (e.g. people with dyslexia or poor eyesight)
Attention span (Do you know what it’s like to split your attention between watching your kids or caregiving and trying to read something… anything? That’s what I mean here).
Energy
Capacity to understand what you’re reading (Ever read a sentence many times in a row and still not gotten the meaning? I have! Especially when I’m tired.)
Patience
Technology or equipment to read (e.g. enough lighting, a tablet or Kindle or phone or computer if the reading material is online, etc.)
And the list goes on…
So thinking of all that, let me ask you—why is your blog only available in written format?
(I call this all blog-to-video, but it can be used to convert text on a landing page to video, too.)
By the end of this blog post (or video if you chose to watch that instead), I want to open your eyes to a different way to blog or write through…blog-to-videos!
What is a blog-to-video video?
Blog-to-video is when you take a blog post and convert it into a video to complement your written messaging. When I create blog-to-videos, I take a post summary and add footage, animated text, and sometimes voiceovers to give it extra spice.
Although I’m talking here about making videos from blog posts, I want to be clear that there can be no blog-to-video without a clear, well-organized blog post.
But doing a blog-to-video helps maximize your efforts. You’ve done some heavy lifting by organizing your thoughts and writing the blog post. And once your blog post is published, video content can boost it as an added bonus!
Can I have a blog-to-video and skip the whole writing part of having a blog?
Blog-to-video will never replace your blog post because:
Blog-to-videos still originate from the written word of the post itself.
SEO values the written word. Your post and your videos are better when they complement each other than being isolated from each other.
Blog posts can be thousands of words long and people will still read it. Videos have a time limit so they can’t cover as much depth as some blog posts can and still be engaging to their viewers.
If you want to make a video without a blog, that’d be a regular video and is totally possible. Check out my Services page and reach out to learn more.
Why should you make blog-to-videos?
Oh, let me count the reasons!
Make Your Posts More Accessible
Some people don’t have the capacity to read a blog post (e.g. people with dyslexia or eyesight issues) and need to watch or listen to a blog post. Others may just want a big picture overview of the blog post because of time constraints.
Whatever the reason, video helps these folks access your content in new and different ways.
Provide SEO Value
According to SEMrush, a blog with “one video receives 83% more traffic than those without” videos. 😮
Additionally, blog posts with “three or more videos gain 55% more backlinks than those with” no videos. (source for both stats)
Traffic and backlinks are the life blood of blog posts—they’re how you spread your words and messages to others. It’s clear that videos provide posts with an added SEO boost.
Expand Into New Marketing Channels
Been thinking about expanding into new content marketing channels like YouTube or TikTok or even using Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram in more engaging ways? Blog-to-videos can help you do that easily by converting new or old content into video content.
By expanding into new channels, your content and knowledge becomes available to a different set of people.
Increase Your Blog Reach
Going along with the previous benefit, your blogs no longer have to live just on your blog, waiting for readers to hopefully find them. They can have an extended life on channels like YouTube or Vimeo where millions of people already hang out.
If you use SEO-friendly titles and descriptions for your videos and are strategic with how you build your channel through blog-to-videos, people will find you.
Hot Marketing Tip: Blog-to-videos are great for older, evergreen blog posts—you can improve it with a blog-to-video addition and upload the video to YouTube. Then, you can promote it as though it’s a new post. You’ll still benefit from the SEO value that that post built up over time on your blog and share relevant, helpful content in a new channel.
Break Up A Lengthier Blog Post
Good web design advises that you can’t have walls of text on your web pages. Scannable text is best with lots of bullet points and visuals to break up the big blocks of text.
Videos, like photos, do a great job of taking text-heavy blogs and making them more digestible, scannable, and engaging.
Fill Up Your Social Media or Email Content Calendars
Being a solopreneur means wearing all the hats, including social media manager. And let me tell you, that social media feed gets empty and sad-looking when I don’t give it time and attention every week. It’s so hard to keep my calendar full with interesting, helpful posts though!
Blog-to-videos created from blog posts you wrote or have written recently can help take up some of those empty spaces in your schedule. You can reuse the videos to fill up your social media channels or for email marketing campaigns, such as email newsletters or automated emails.
And if you’re creating a blog-to-video from a landing page, the video can then be used in your promotional efforts on those channels.
Convinced you should give blog-to-videos a try?
